The Halifax Titanic Orchestra

The Halifax Titanic Orchestra will transport you to a time before the Great wars, to an era of opulence, to the time of the Great trans-Atlantic steam liners, including the most famous of all - the White Star Line’s luxury liner the Titanic.
The Orchestra performs the music that was heard by the passengers on the Titanic’s ill-fated maiden voyage. Their songbook includes the popular salon music (by composers such as Dvořák, Offenbach, Saint-Saens, Delibes, and Fritz Kreisler) that the ship’s musicians performed in the First-Class Dining Room, or in the Veranda Café and Palm Court. There’s also livelier fare that the ship’s younger set enjoyed on the B deck in the Café Parisien, including Ragtime, waltzes and two-steps, a Brazilian Tango, and popular American and British Music Hall songs.
Directed by pianist Ian Bent (Caledonia, Acres and Acres), The Halifax Titanic Orchestra is composed of a hand-picked crew of the city’s finest players including: Gina Burgess (Gypsophilia, Der Heisser), violin; Sussanë Brown, violin and viola; John Spearns (MacCrimmon’s Revenge), cello, and Ron Hynes (Ben Caplan), double bass.

Alana Yorke

In one moment upbeat and energetic, the next complex and introspective, Alana Yorke's music is original, captivating, and transporting. Combining entrancing vocals with elements of folk and pop, Yorke creates textured, bold new sounds not quite like anything you've ever heard...
The Halifax singer/songwriter is rich in experience, from her roots in a tiny village in rural Nova Scotia, to time living in Ireland, France, and Newfoundland, and close contact with a range of genres including folk, Celtic, and indie rock. Yorke's style is continuously expanding and evolving, resulting in music that is challenging and creative, but sincere - integrating a broad range of styles and reminiscent of such diverse acts as singer/songwriters Sarah McLachlan and Joni Mitchell to alternative artists such as Kate Bush, Laurie Anderson, and Philip Glass, and even arrangement/sound-focused groups like Radiohead and Yes.
